About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes

Join us for an informative lunch and learn session including the Supported Internship project, covering Bath & North East Somerset, and the West of England Good Employment Charter!

Come and find out more about supported internships and how working with interns can benefit employers by bringing fresh perspectives, fostering diversity, and enhancing workplace inclusivity as well as creating a pipeline of talented and well-trained employees.

We will have an intern and employer present to ask about how internships and hosting a supported internship works.

Did you know that in 2023 only 4.8% of adults with a learning disability and autism known to adult social care are in employment? In 2021 53.5% of disabled people aged 16 to 64 years in the UK were employed compared with 81.6% of non-disabled people. Many young people with a learning disability and neurodiversity would like to work but need additional support to do so.

This is the aim of the supported internship programme. The internship delivers education and training to 16–24-year-olds with a learning disability or neurodiversity who have an education, health and care plan. Our vision in Bath and NE Somerset is to effectively support more people with a learning disability to move into paid work.

Supported Internships area yearlong education programme with at least 70% of the internship in the work place supported by a job coach who is provided by the school or college. The aim is to secure a job at the end of the placement.
