This course is primarily intended for homeowners and occupiers of vernacular buildings which have cobbled yards or cobbled surfaces. Ireland’s vernacular buildings generally comprise modest homes constructed using local materials and traditional techniques by ‘ordinary’ people using locally available materials such as thatch, stone, slate, earth, wattle and unsawn timber. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of traditional skills, promote the sensitive reuse of our vernacular built heritage using appropriate approaches and materials, and share knowledge and guidance with building owners.
