Transforming Assessment Practices

Training will be held in Jackson's Hotel, Ballybofey from Monday 19th to Wednesday 21st May.

All FET staff who teach QQI Levels 4 to 6 or equivalent are required to attend one day only.

These are repeat sessions, spaces will be allocated in order of registration. Liaise with your line manager regarding your prefered day prior to registering.

The sessions run from 10:00am until 3:00pm. Tea/ Coffee will be available from 9:30am, and a hot lunch will be provided.


Event Details

This training will keep you up to date with programme development, assessment instruments, and the latest national developments. It will also enable you to engage with our communities of practice going forward, and have your say with regard to the programme development of your subject area.

Topics include:

  • Programme development, validation and quality assurance
  • Assessment process and the assessor’s role
  • Level indicators, assessment techniques and writing briefs
  • Grading standards, feedback quality and data protection

This is an opportunity to network and collaberate with colleagues who teach the same or similar subject areas as you, refresh your expertise, and contribute to best practice in assessment. Sessions will be collaberative and and interactive, you may wish to bring a notebook or laptop.


Facilitator Details

Anne Higgins has worked in education for over 45 years across all sectors from Primary to Higher Education, predominantly in Further Education.

She has developed, delivered and assessed multiple programmes in FET at national and local level; she has been a FET external authenticator (EA) for over 30 years, a programme author and lecturer for FET modules and has supervised FET Teachers for several Teaching Universities.

Can I choose which day to attend?

Please consult with your line manager. Spaces are limited and will be allocated in order of registration. Please only register for and attend one day.

Do I have to attend if I’ve been to a similar session before?

Yes, all FET staff teaching QQI Levels 4 to 6 (or equivalent) are required to attend one of these sessions.

What time does the training start and finish?

What should I bring with me?

You may wish to bring a laptop for participating in activities, although it is not mandatory.
