Welcome to Tier 1: Part 2 of The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the government’s preferred and recommended training for the health and social care sector after the Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a requirement that regulated service providers must ensure their staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role.

The courses offered on this platform are fully funded and exclusively available to professionals in the Adult Health and Social Care sector within the Northeast and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board (NENC ICB).

OVERVIEW:

Tier 1 of Oliver’s training is divided into two parts. Staff must complete both parts of Tier 1.

Tier 1: Part 1

Part 1 of Tier 1 is an e-Learning for Health module. Each participant must complete this module prior to attending Part 2.

Tier 1: Part 2 - Live Webinar

Part 2 of Tier 1 is this live webinar. It is suitable for health and social care workers who require a general awareness of the support that autistic people and people with a learning disability may need.

The webinar is co-delivered by an approved trainer with a learning disability, an approved autistic trainer and an approved facilitating trainer.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Each participant must complete Part 1 of the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism prior to the webinar.
  • Participants are required to join the webinar individually using a laptop, tablet or a computer. Smartphones are not permitted.
  • Participants will receive a certificate of completion within one week of completing Part 2. Participants are responsible for sharing their certificate with their line manager.
  • The training content may trigger difficult and upsetting feelings. It contains potentially challenging material that mentions death, trauma, mental and physical illness, system failures and inequalities faced by autistic people and people with a learning disability.
