This Star Wars day, you too can be a (Sky)Walker!

Join us on a fabulous guided walk across the famous Morecambe Bay Sands in support of Destination Florida Children’s Charity sponsored by our friends at Penisula Group https://www.peninsulagrouplimited.com

We will be led across the sands by the official guide of the Kent Estuary - Michael Wilson, walking from Arnside to Grange. The eight-mile walk takes three to four hours across the sands including a wade through the River Kent.

Anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Registration costs are as follows:

£15 per person

£25 per person coach included

£5 per dog

These prices all include a Destination Florida branded ‘buff’ and coach travel from Grange to Arnside.

We would encourage all walkers to raise a minimum of £50 sponsorship for their walk to contribute to our next trip to Florida in 2025! You could do this via JustGiving or download a fundraising pack from our website

https://www.destinationflorida.org.uk/get-involved/fundraise/

We have arranged coach travel from Grange-over-Sands (where we end the walk) railway station to Arnside where we commence our walk for anyone who would like to get the coach. Small dogs are permitted on the coach and must remain in the footwell. Dogs are not permitted in the aisles or on knees.

The coach will take approximately half an hour to travel from Grange to Arnside.

The coach will depart Grange-over-sands railway station at 1pm with registration opening here at 12:30pm, continuing on the promenade in Arnside across from ‘The Albion’ pub - what 3 words location ///bookmark.roving.bespoke from 1:45pm - 2:15pm

Please look for the Destination Florida logo and pink tabards!

The walk leaves from the same location promptly at 2:30pm.

We then walk across the bay, concluding our walk in Grange.

Places are strictly limited so please book early!

Getting there:

🚘 By car: We suggest you park in Grange so that, when the walk finishes, your car will be waiting for you. There is paid parking available in Grange, though as this is a Bank Holiday weekend give ample time to park and walk to the station and join the coach.

Our coach will depart from outside the train station at 1pm promptly.

We will send out confirmation requests for coach travel three weeks before the walk to ensure coach confirmation.

🚊 By train: Leave the car at home and travel to and from Arnside and Grange by train. More information and tickets are available at www.nationalrail.co.uk.

FAQs:

❓What should I wear?

Be prepared to get wet! The walk crosses the River Kent so your feet and legs will get wet. Make sure to wear appropriate shoes and clothes – we recommend old comfortable trainers or shoes rather than expensive walking boots. Bring a change of clothing for after the walk, and don’t forget it can get breezy out on the sands, even if the sun is out, so bring a waterproof layer.

*Please note: wellies are NOT suitable for this walk

❓ How fit do I need to be?

This walk is suitable for people of all ages. The route is approximately 8 miles long with flat terrain. You will be wading through water in the river channels and walking on soft wet sand for the majority of the route. It can be tricky traversing the salt marshes at the end of the walk, if the weather has been wet so care is advised.

❓ Is food and drink provided?

We recommend that you bring drinking water and any snacks you may want for the walk. There are shops and cafes in Grange and Arnside where you can purchase food and drink before the start of the walk

❓ Is it wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately this event is not suitable for wheelchair users

❓ Can I bring a pram?

No

❓ Can I bring my dog?

Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead. The coach company accepts dogs, however they must remain seated in footwells and should not sit in the aisle during the coach journey or travel on knees!

❓ What happens if it is raining?

This event is weather reliant, due to the nature of the sands and crossing the River Kent. We rely on The Guide Over Sands Trust guidance as to whether or not it is safe to go ahead with the walk. All participants will be required to provide a mobile number at registration, which we can contact you on should the walk need to be cancelled due to inclement weather.

❓ What happens if the event is cancelled?

We will always do our very best to go ahead with the walk, but your safety is of the utmost importance. In event of cancellation, the walk will be rescheduled at the earliest possible date.

❓ Where are the closest toilets?

Public toilets are available at Arnside Train Station. Due to the length of the walk we strongly advise walkers to make use of the facilities before setting off!

❓ How many people will be taking part?

We have reserved 100 places on the walk, with other charities also having spaces. A total of 500 people will be walking.

Registration will be busy, as will the start and finishing areas so please make sure you arrive in plenty of time.

❓ Where can I find out more information about walking across the sands
