About this event

From funding Ukrainian weapons to helping Iran circumvent financial sanctions and allegedly undermining the dollar's reserve currency status, Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general are now an integral part of international security discussions. This panel gathers experts on Bitcoin, Iran, China, and monetary politics to clarify what role crypto really plays and what to expect next.

Wadham DPhil candidate Stephane Marbeau will lead a discussion of the geopolitics of cryptocurrency, with guest speakers:

Mahsa Alimardani is a DPhil Candidate at the Oxford Internet Institute, specialising on political communications and social movements on the Internet in Iran. She’s been working on issues of digital rights on Iran and the wider MENA region within civil society for the past decade.

Brian Wong is a Rhodes Scholar (HKSAR ’20, Balliol) and Founder of the Oxford Political Review; Brian has written prolifically on the intersection of Web 3.0 and the future of democratic and political governance.

Anatole Baboukhian, Senior Policy Manager at FIS Global. With an extensive background in public law, technology and payments regulation, Anatole leads FIS’ global public policy affairs on crypto and digital assets.

Drinks will be available from 5pm.
