The Future of Thought: Criminology, Sociology, & Social Policy Undergraduate Dissertation Conference is a student-led academic event showcasing outstanding undergraduate dissertation's within the Department of Criminology, Sociology, & Social Policy at Swansea University.

This one-day conference provides students with a platform to present their dissertations through engaging presentations or posters, receive valuable feedback from faculty and peers, and develop key academic and professional skills such as public speaking and networking. A panel of judges will evaluate presentations and posters, with prizes awarded to the best submissions.

Attendees will have the chance to explore postgraduate funding opportunities, gain insights into MSc and PhD programs offered by our department, and engage in conversations with current postgraduate students to learn about their experiences.

Who can present at the conference?

Final-year undergraduate students who have completed a dissertation—either research-based or a literature review—in Criminology, Sociology, & Social Policy.

What are the presentation options?

Students can either deliver a 15-minute presentation of their dissertation findings or create a research poster to highlight key aspects of their research. The winner for the best presentation will receive a £40 voucher and the winner for the best poster will be awarded a £20 voucher!

Do I need to pay for a ticket even though I am presenting?

What is the deadline to register?

The deadline to submit abstracts and register to attend is May 16th, 2025.

Will there be food at the event?

Yes! A catered break will be provided, giving attendees a chance to network and engage with poster presenters.

What should I bring to the event?

Presenters should bring any materials needed for their presentation. Attendees may want to bring a notebook for jotting down insights and questions.

Poster presentations will take place during the conference, offering participants the chance to visually represent their research or ideas. Also, we will finance the poster printing costs. This ensures that participants can focus on their content without the worry of additional expenses.
