About this event

  • 2 hours

The Big Smoke is a brand new variety show and live recorded podcast. It takes inspiration from classic TV variety shows and late night chat shows with a theatrical bent towards exploring the ancient rituals of gathering and community. In our world, where the algorithms of social media are driving humanity further and further apart, The Big Smoke, by its very nature, will bring unexpected audiences together for a variety show, the likes of which they have never seen. Come gather at Soho's Sacred Grounds cafe on Dean Street for a night of comedy, conversation, and community with wit and wisdom from your host, Kevin Bennett!

May 24th: Change in Muddy Waters

How might 'small change' be the beginning of a big journey? How does digging into the past help us become more alive in the present?

Our second show, Change in Muddy Waters, will feature an array of London's most exciting performers and eclectic speakers including a special interview with Thames Mudlark Sean Clark. Over the past few years Sean has found many unique and historical objects along the River Thames. He loves how finding something small and seemingly insignificant takes him on a journey of discovery into the intriguing world of that object, ultimately leading him to bring to life the stories of people who we often don't read about in history books. Sean will bring along some of his most precious objects and share with us those stories.

In addition to Sean Clark, our May 24th show will feature some very special performances including interactive poetry, storytelling and music. Bring your friends and make some new ones, while being entertained by some of London's most talented performers and unique speakers.

Tickets are 5 pounds online, or PWYC (pay what you can) at the door. Seats are limited, so we recommend booking in advance to ensure your seat!
