Welcome to the Spring Cyanotype Workshop at British Library as part of the Craftyfox Spring Market! Join us for a hands-on experience where you'll learn the art of creating beautiful cyanotype prints alongside the new exhibition: Unearthed: The Power of Gardening and 40+ indie crafters, artisits and designers selling at a craft market.

This in-person event will take place at the iconic British Library, providing the perfect backdrop for your creative endeavors. No prior experience is necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and we'll provide all the materials you need to create beautiful plant prints. Immerse yourself in the world of cyanotype and leave with your own unique creations. Don't miss out on this opportunity to explore a fascinating art form in a historic setting!


In this 1.5 hour workshop: you get to leave with 4 x cyanotype prints that you made with plants. You’ll have access to a large, pressed flower collection and hand-painted UV light sensitive paper, that you'll learn all about how to print flowers using this Victorian photographic method to produce beautiful blue prints.

You’ll leave with artwork, a wealth of knowledge on the process and a feeling closer to nature.

Workshop Details

This cyanotype workshop covers a range of topics, including:

  • Introduction to Cyanotype: Learn about the history and science behind cyanotypes.
  • Introduction to plants for printing: Taking inspiration from Robin Wall Kimmerer, we share our everyday lives with incredible plant beings and cyanotype can help us to build a stronger relationship with nature.
  • Materials and Equipment: Discover the materials needed and how to set up your workspace. Materials will be provided but do bring items to print if you wish.
  • Creating Cyanotypes: Using a vast pressed flower collection, explore various methods of arranging objects and negatives to create unique designs.
  • Exposure and Development: Learn how to expose your prints and develop them to achieve the desired effect.
  • Troubleshooting: Get tips for common challenges and how to achieve the best results.



What should I bring to the workshop?

All necessary materials and equipment will be provided. Just bring your creativity and enthusiasm! You may also want to bring along some objects or negatives you'd like to use in your cyanotype creations. Good things to print: feathers, jewellery, photo negatives, lace stencils.

How long is the workshop?

The standard workshop typically lasts 1.5 hours. It is suitable for children chaperoned by adults and those who just want to try out the process.

Can I bring my kids to the workshop?

Absolutely! We welcome participants of all ages. Children under the age of 13 need an adult present.


Will I be able to take my cyanotypes home on the same day?

Yes, you'll be able to take your cyanotype prints home on the same day!

Daisy Bow is a crafter, plant enthusiast and content creator who is currently doing her PhD at the Kington School of Art on the Craft of Content Creation. She makes social media posts about her varied creative practice and has a passion for widening participation, accessibility and promoting creativity.
