Event Description
2 x 3 hour sessions for staff who would like to develop a greater understanding of the needs of children with communication difficulties (understanding, processing, and talking) and the needs of children for whom language difficulties are their main barrier to learning, sometimes described as Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). Sessions will focus on the development of language skills, and an understanding of how you can recognise and identify difficulties and contribute to assessment. We will build practical strategies to use in the classroom. Sessions will be co-constructed with the group (on the basis of your needs), and will be workshop based, aiming to ‘bring the learning to life’ by problem-solving and planning for supporting children in participants’ schools.
Aims/Objectives
Participants will be able to recognise these difficulties in pupils they support and will develop an understanding of how to work more effectively with outside agencies to identify specific needs, and to design and implement support and intervention programmes in schools.
Outcomes
School staff will develop greater understanding, skills and confidence in supporting pupils with speech, language and communication needs in the classroom.
