About this event

What to expect:

This 90-minute class invites you to Indulge in a blissful fusion of relaxation and restoration to welcome the New Year. We will intertwine the gentle, meditative practice of yin (great for nervous system regulation and mobility) with some myofascial release exercises. The fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, bones and organs throughout the body. It plays a crucial role in maintaining alignment and flexibility. Fascia can become chronically tight or restricted due to various factors including stress, previous injuries or repetitive movements. We will learn how to apply passive, static stress on the fascia in a safe way to encourage deep release. We will also utilise meditation techniques, breathwork and embodiment exercises.

The class is designed and delivered in a trauma-informed way. It has proven especially transformative for those who experience anxiety, overwhelm, chronic pain, inflammation or stress. So if you are looking for a slow-flowing movement session which will gently energise or rejuvenate you; this is the perfect option.

Please note: No prior experience is required to attend this class. Various options, modifications and adaptations will be provided to meet your accessibility requirements.

What is somatic movement?

Movement is somatic when we consciously focus on the internal experience of movement as opposed to it’s visual appearance or aestheticism. It is typically characterised by slow, intentional, exploratory or repetitive movements. In this session, the somatic movements are organic, rhythmic and intuitive movements which signal safety to your body and help your nervous system to come out of a chronic freeze or fight or flight state. Somatic movement classes can be considered a mindful movement practice or can be used as an opportunity to seek guidance and intuition from your body in relation to a specific topic. Come along with an open mind, you may be pleasantly surprised!

About me:

As a certified yoga teacher, Pilates instructor, somatic coach and dancer, I have curated this signature class to support everyone in adopting a holistic, mindful and intuitive approach to their own body. This is a space for reconnection and restoration. My movement methodology has been heavily informed by my extensive experience of teaching inclusive dance across London. I worked at SLIDE (South London Inclusive Dance Experience), and as a producer for DanceWest. I helped launch the Bolder Not Older Dance company (supporting those aged 55+) and Mum’s Movement; an initiative which helped new mothers reconnect with their bodies post-birth. Later I found London Ballet Classes, a school centred on building community, self-connection and self-expression through the medium of ballet and dance.

I view this lesson as a safe space where you will be gently guided by your inner curiosity and creativity in responding to your body's needs. Together we develop a practice which is experiential, body-led and intuitive.

Please note that FIRST TIME students can join this lesson as a taster session for free. This offer is only available to new students.
