Transition Year Musical, “Sister Act”

Yes, it’s school musical time of year again and the Transition Year students and musical production team of teachers in St. Louis, Carrickmacross, are putting the final touches to weeks of rehearsals for this year’s production, “Sister Act” imaginatively directed by Liebe Kelly.

Based on the popular 1992 film of the same name, the story follows disco diva Deloris van Cartier as her life is turned upside down when she witnesses a murder. She is placed under protective custody and hidden in the one place she shouldn’t be found – a convent! Encouraged to help the struggling choir, she helps her fellow sisters find their true voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.

Laura Greene, the musical lead producer, has arranged the score to create wonderful musical performances by the TY students together with Sarah Rose Mc Donagh as production assistant. Art teacher, Hannah Martin and her team of students, have designed the imaginative set and props and Ellie Rose Ward and her team of dancers have skilfully choreographed what promises to be a dazzling display that will not disappoint. Contributions by several other willing helpers have all combined to create a wonderful musical experience.

School principal, Karen Patton stated that the school has a long tradition of presenting an annual musical, students benefit hugely from taking part, discovering their talents and gaining in confidence greatly through this extra-curricular activity. ‘It’s a great night out for all the family, aunties, uncles and grandparents often make a special effort to be in the audience along with the proud parents,’ commented Ms Patton, and invites everyone to come along and enjoy the wealth of creative talent evident among all the Transition Year students, both on stage and behind the scenes.

Ms Patton also paid compliments to the team of teachers and students for their enthusiasm and wishes them every success in their spectacular production and acknowledged how very grateful the school was to local businesses who have supported the school’s sponsorship campaign.

There will be just five on-stage performances in St Louis Secondary School Hall which will begin with a special matinee show for the students at local primary schools on Tuesday 14th May, so tickets are sure to sell out fast. Ticket numbers are limited due to capacity of the hall. Show starts at 7.30pm each evening and runs from 15th – 17th May at 7:30pm.

Get your tickets now at www.Eventbrite.ie or can be purchased directly from school reception.

With a strong cast, distinctive set, leading production team, rip-roaring choruses, and lively dancers, “Sister Act” is guaranteed to provide a great night’s entertainment for all the family.
