About this event
Seven Rows are opening their first pop-up from Tuesday 13th to Friday 16th May 2025. On display will be a collection of art, fashion and accessories from seven London based artists and designers who all specialise in knitting and studied Textiles at Chelsea College of Art.
We will be open daily from 12 - 7pm with a late opening on the Tuesday for the Private View.
Live yarn spinning demonstrations daily from 2 - 4pm.
On Friday from 6 - 7pm there will be a talk with some of the artists on the wide ranging possibilities of making with knitting techniques and how each individual has found their own unique place within the creative industries. There will be reflections on their career journeys after graduating from Chelsea College of Art and discussions on the craft of knitting.
We will be displaying pieces from:
Alice Thompson, B.Clax, Kate Box, Liv Barnes, Megan Sharples, Noush Knitwear, Olivia J Holland, Tomoko Yamanaka and Verity Jones.
Alice Thompson sees the world through knit. Her practice makes reference to the transitional and fleeting stages in our lifetime and the cast aside nature of clothing. Working with the medium of knit, she tests the durability of the yarn, often knitting on a loose tension so that the physical line of the knitted row is seen.
Alice graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 2019.
B.Clax is the eponymous label of B Claxton – the London-based designer who uses sustainably sourced materials from deadstock or Yorkshire mills to craft her knitwear designs.
Kate Box is a textile designer maker, passionate about blending contemporary design with traditional craft. Colour was, and is, the driving force behind all her work and experimenting with hues, tones and combinations of colours has been a fascination since studying at the Chelsea College of Art. She works with lambswool and linen both highly-versatile, renewable fibres which respond well to the natural dyes of plants native to the UK.
Kate graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 1999.
Liv Barnes is a textile artist and maker who lives and works in London. Her work has focused on the slow, intentional act of making by hand and the joy of exploring colour and composition through material combinations. Liv frequently uses yarn wrapping techniques to develop colour studies whilst exploring the materiality of natural fibres such as silk, cotton, linen and wool.
Liv graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 2016.
Megan Sharples is a multi-disciplinary artist working predominantly with textiles. In a search for comfort and safety, their work is soft and colourful with repetitive geometric patterns. Repeated colours and motifs keep the pieces familial, creating a sense of familiarity and belonging. Their current work is a series of abstract textiles 'collages', repurposing knit swatches and second-hand fabrics into 3D wall pieces.
Megan graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 2015.
Noush Knitwear was started by Anoushka Haroutounian in 2019. Each individual piece is developed and hand made in South London, on a domestic knit machine, using high quality British and Italian dead stock yarns. Almost all pieces made are a one off. Produced in small seasonless collections, each item is limited edition and designed to feel good in, always.
Anoushka graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 2019.
Olivia J Holland is an ethical textiles brand creating hand-crafted, unisex and home accessories, for those who want to stand out with elegance.
Olivia graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 2014.
Tomoko Yamanaka is a knitwear designer and fashion design consultant, specialising in sustainable and handmade clothing. Since 2012 she’s been focusing on her “British Alpaca Project” knitwear collection, made using only 100% British alpaca wool. She collaborates with farmers and micro-mills to create her own original high quality yarns.
Tomoko graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 2000.
Verity Jones is a fibre artist using natural colours to make floral, nature inspired pieces made using mainly knit and crochet techniques. With the environment at the forefront of her making, the garments are created so they can rejoin the ecosystem at the end of their cycle.
Verity graduated from Chelsea College of Art in 2023.
