Building Resilience and Mitigating Burnout
What if there was a skill you could use to help you sustain compassion in the face of competing demands like technology/documentation, time pressures, and fatigue?
Self-compassion skills can be used on the spot while at work—and with your own inner critic. The SCHC program was found to significantly decrease depression, stress, and burnout; and to increase self-compassion, mindfulness, compassion for others, and job satisfaction in healthcare professionals.
The three key components of self-compassion are self-kindness, a sense of common humanity, and mindful awareness.
Course Description and Benefits
Self-Compassion Training for Healthcare Communities (SCHC) is an evidence-based adaptation of Mindful Self-Compassion, the empirically supported program of Kristin Neff, Ph.D. at UT Austin ( www.self-compassion.org) and Christopher Germer, Ph.D (www.mindfulselfcompassion.org) at Harvard Medical School offered by the global nonprofit Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.
Self-compassion practices can be used while at work with patients and colleagues. As a participant of the program, you can learn tools to use throughout the day to:
• Care for yourself while caring for others
• Listen with compassion
• Handle difficult emotions with greater ease
• Reconnect to the values that give your life and work meaning
This training focuses on improving wellbeing and personal resilience in healthcare professionals by teaching mindful self-compassion skills to deal with distressing emotional situations as they occur at work and at home.
Objectives
• Explain the difference between empathy and compassion
• Use strategies to avoid emotional exhaustion.
• Practice techniques to increase self-compassion at work and everyday life.
• Practice at least 1 skill from each session to care for yourself while caring for others.
