Robbie Mochrie on How to think like an economist – 29 May 2024, 6:30 p.m

How to think like an economist might be a misleading name for a book because it suggests that there is a right way of doing it. The reality is that we all think about the economy. It's just that some people are better at it than others. Since anyone can think about the economy well, a history of economics has to include philosophers, priests, journalists, bankers, historians, mathematicians and political scientists. In his talk, Robbie will discuss how economic thinking acquired its distinct identity and how that process has led some professional economists into the mistake of drawing up the drawbridge and trying to make the discipline separate from other social sciences - in the process mistaking precise thinking for wisdom.
