About this event

Are you the mother of a daughter who is approaching their menarche (first menstruation) and would like to support her and celebrate her journey? Would you like to be in a safe space where it is possible to connect with your daughter and listen to her wishes and worries?

Join me on Sunday 16th June (11 am – 1 pm) and on Sunday 23rd June (11 am – 1pm) for a workshop for girls and their mothers.

Menarche is an important event in the life of a young person. Every individual and their family experiences it in a unique way, and it can stir up all sorts of feelings and reactions.

Most people think of menarche for its sexual and reproductive implications, but the beginning of the menstrual cycle, and the hormones involved in it, affects the emotional, cognitive and psychological development of a girl.

Mothers, because of their lived experience, are usually the ones who talk to their daughters about menarche and menstruation. This topic and conversation can sometimes be a complex one to have. Sometimes mothers are unsure when it is best to talk about it, what to share and which words should be used. Sometimes it can be difficult for mothers to tune in with their daughters, to separate their own experience and memories from their daughters’ wishes and expectations.

The first session is for mothers only. During this session we will talk about pubertal changes, the menstrual cycle and how to prepare your daughter for it. This session will also give mothers the opportunity to remember and reconnect with their own menarche and menstrual cycle.

The second session is for mothers and daughters. We will talk about the menstrual cycle, its four phases and what happens in the female body and mind during each one of them. We will use art materials to make these ideas more fun and easier to understand. During this session there will also be time for mothers and daughters to connect and share experiences.

Cost (which covers both sessions): £75

Carlotta Bozzetti's Offering at 11am - 1pm on Sunday 16th June and 23rd June.
