About this event

  • 2 hours

These 2 hour workshops are great for practicing and learning new techniques or compositions.

Each workshop is hands-on, and may include a local walkabout (if applicable and weather dependant).

The workshop starts with an overview of composition techniques and example images to discuss. You will learn about the rules of thirds, symmetry, colour, subject, interest, distraction and leading lines before putting them into practice!

We shall then create a series of images and discuss them before and after capture, considering the techniques learned at the start of the workshop.

Each workshop is friendly and relaxed. The only pre-requist is you know how to capture an image with your camera. It doesn't matter what camera you use as the techniques are suitable for all (including point-and-shoot or phone cameras).

Frequently asked questions

Is food and drink included?

As the workshop is two hours it does not include food or drink, but please feel free to bring a drink and snack if you require

What equipment will I need?

Any camera is fine! This workshop is about subject and composition, so what you see through the viewfinder or on the screen. Camera type and brand isn't important. Creativity is what matters!

Will we be outside?

The workshop is held in a village hall, however depending on the pace of the group and the weather conditions we may venture outside, but only in the vicinity of the hall.

What previous experience or knowledge do I need?

So long as you can take a photograph with your camera no additional experience or knowledge is required for this workshop. It is not a technical workshop and assumes you are already comfortable with capturing photographs (even if only in auto modes).

Is this just for landscape photographers?

Not at all! The techniques are applicable to all genres of photography. The aim of the workshop is to give you an understanding of composing an image, regardless of your subject.
