About this event

  • 3 hours 30 minutes

Our PGCE Interview Days are designed to be the first step of what will hopefully go on to be a positive, successful PGCE year for you with us at the University. You will have an opportunity to get to know some of the academic tutors, see the main building your University sessions will take place in and meet some of your potential fellow trainees.

What to Expect

The day will be made up of:

  • A one-to-one discussion with one of our academic tutors about your application
  • A written activity to help identify any areas of subject knowledge we can support you with
  • An opportunity to explore the campus

What to Bring

If you are successful on the interview day, we would like to be able to make you a conditional offer as soon as possible. To help us do so, please bring the following with you on the day:

  • The original certificates, as well as a photocopy of each, for the following qualifications: GCSE English Language and GCSE Mathematics (as well as GCSE Science if applying for Primary)
  • The original certificate, as well as a photocopy, of your degree if you have already graduated
  • If you are on the DBS update service, please bring a photocopy of your DBS certificate, as well as the original. You will need to fill in a consent form on your interview day so that we can verify your DBS
  • The originals, as well as photocopies, of two forms of ID, one of which must be photographic. These can include: Passport; UK driving licence; marriage certificate; full birth certificate; P45/P60; EU National ID card or BRP

Before the Day

On the Friday before your interview, the Programme Administration team will email you with further information about the day. This will include:

  • A guide on the topics that will be discussed during your 1-1 interview, to help you feel as prepared and relaxed as possible
  • A Mathematics subject audit, to be completed before the start of the interview day. This is so our tutors can identify if there are any areas of your subject knowledge they can help you with over the duration of the course
  • Further information about what to expect on the day
  • A reminder of what to bring

Below are some Frequently Asked Questions about the interview day that we hope will answer any queries you have. However, you are more than welcome to get in touch with us on pgcerecruitment@le.ac.uk if there is anything else you would like to know.

Frequently asked questions

I have applied for more than one course/route. Do I need to book multiple interviews?

You only need to book one interview with the University, irrespective of how many routes you have applied for with us. If you have applied for a Lead Partner route, please contact them so they can schedule their interview with you as close to your university one as possible.

Do I need to prepare anything in advance?

Please see above the section on 'Before the Day' for information on this.

Where can I park on the day?

The closest car park is Freemen's multi-storey, located just behind the Sir Bob Burgess building. Tariff information can be found here: https://le.ac.uk/engagement/community/residents/car-park. Alternatively, pay and display parking is available at Victoria Park or on University Road.

What do I do if I don't have the necessary academic certificates to show on the day?

If you have not yet graduated, do not worry - you can show us your degree certificate once you have received it. If you do not have your original GCSE certificates, you will need to order replacement copies of these if you are made a conditional offer after the interview day.

How long will the interview day last?

The interview days are scheduled to take place from either 10am - 1:30pm or 1:30 - 4:30pm. There is a chance you might be finished earlier than this, particularly if your 1-1 discussion with a tutor is scheduled for earlier in the day.

What should I do if I can no longer attend the interview I have booked?

If you need to reschedule or cancel your interview, please email the Programme Administration team on pgcerecruitment@leicester.ac.uk to inform them as soon as possible.
