PASSIVHAUS OPEN DAYS
Friday 28 June to Sunday 30 June 2024 (10:00 to 16:00 each day)
Warksburn Old Church is a 3 bedroom luxury holiday rental property now being created at Wark-on-Tyne, close to Hadrians Wall in rural Northumberland. It is believed to be the world's first retrofit project to convert a former church to the Passivhaus standards.
The renovation is scheduled to complete in July 2024, so this Passivhaus Trust open day will be the only ever opportunity to 'get up close and personal' with the building work on this technically complex project. It's a unique opportunity to take a look at how airtightness, insulation, and other energy efficiency measures have been built into this 21st Century home, whilst retaining the historic features of the 1875 original Victorian building.
The building owners will be on hand to offer tips and advice, including tours of the property's Smart Energy installation, not normally accessible to the public, which enables Warksburn Old Church to target Net Zero performance. Combining an extensive solar array with substantial on-site energy storage, the building has been designed to use only 100% renewably-generated electricity (whether from the grid or generated on-site) and to generate more energy than it consumes.
For more information about the project visit the Warksburn Old Church website.
