Parallel Traditions: A concert of south Indian classical music and organ music

Come join us for a unique musical experience at St. Brigid's Cathedral Kildare Town. This concert promises to be special with the coming together of Carnatic musicians Karaikudi Subramanian and Karaikudi Krishnamurthy and organist Arthur Greene. The traditional sounds of the vina and mridangam are rarely heard in Ireland so this will be a treat for any fans of Indian music.

The concert will feature caranatic music on vina and mridangam, solo organ music and finally a blend of all three instruments.

**DOORS 5.30 . Music begins at 6.00 pm**

Karaikudi S. Subramanian (KSS) is a South Indian classical vina exponent and academic. He hails from the Karaikudi Vina Tradition, representing its 9th generation. He is best known for his work at the music institute Brhaddhvani - Research and Training Centre for Musics of the World, which he founded in 1989. Rooted in tradition and broadened by extensive academic endeavours, KSS's contributions have been ground-breaking in preserving and dissemination Karnatak music to diverse audiences.

Karaikudi R Krishnamurthy is the 9th generation mridangam artiste in South India’s illustrious family of musicians. He started learning Mridangam at the age of 4 from the Mridangam he received as a gift from his grandfather. He has accompanied highly acclaimed maestros and has also played for dance performances. Shri Karaikudi R. Krishnamurthy received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to dance music as a Mridangam artist in 2012.

Arthur Greene is an organist, harpsichordist, pianist and composer from Kildare. In 2022 he graduated with a distinction from a masters in performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music where he studied under Dr. David Adams. Most recently he had the pleasure to travel to India to study Carnatic music at Brhaddhvani under Karaikudi Subramanian.
