MAGICAL INDIGO BLUES & JAPANESE SHIBORI Workshop at SIDELINE STUDIO
Dye a Large canvas Bag
An experiential workshop in dyeing magical blues with Natural Indigo dye, and learn natural resist dyeing techniques at the beautiful studio of independent fashion label SIDELINE.
In the workshop your will learn a a variety of Japanese Shibori techniques to produce four different patterns Arashi/kumo/itajami/Ne Maki on vintage linens and cottons.
We will experiment with traditional methods of folding,clamping,tyeing and binding, using a collection of wooden shapes,pipes,sticks,stones and clamps.
We will then dye a Large Canvas Bag in the Indigo vat.
You will leave the workshop with a collection of different samples and a bag, as well as skills, shared knowledge and tips in how to create your own natural Indigo vat at home.
No experience is necessary - just an enthusiasm to experiemnt and play!
All materials will be provided, but please bring your own rubber gloves and an apron (wear clothes to get messy in).
The workshop will be lead by Clare O'Leary, an Art Therapist and Textile Artist. Clare uses natural dyes/pigments,plants,flowers and food waste to produce living colour, with an emphasis on process,transformation and natural landscape.
