Come join us for an unforgettable evening at St Mel's Cathedral featuring the talented soprano Claudia Boyle alongside the renowned Longford County Choir. Get ready to be mesmerized by their enchanting performance in this beautiful setting. Don't miss out on this special event!

Longford County Choir’s May Gala Concert features a performance of Luigi Cherubini’s Requiem in C minor (1816) with orchestra conducted by Fintan Farrelly. One of the most highly regarded sacred works of its time, admired by Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms, the performance is dedicated to the memory of proud Longford man, Matt Farrelly, a member and loyal supporter of the choir and of the Arts who died in October 2023. It is our fervent wish that the performance of the Requiem will bring comfort and hope to those who have lost loved ones

Special Guest is coloratura soprano Claudia Boyle, a national treasure equally at home on opera and concert stages. Claudia has secured her stellar reputation on the world-wide stage as one of the finest Irish opera singers of her generation having won both 1st Prize and the Critics Award at The Maria Callas Competition in Verona. Her stellar international career has taken her to the four corners of the globe in collaboration with the likes of Riccardo Muti, Paavo Järvi and Kent Nagano. This consummate artist is sure to enthral and enchant the Longford audience as she weaves an eclectic programme of splendid music bringing together the worlds of opera, sacred music, and musical theatre in the beautiful surroundings of St. Mel’s Cathedral.
