About this event

Lino printing involves carving into a block of linoleum, covering the carved surface with a thin layer of ink, and transferring the design to a piece of paper through putting both the block and the paper through a printing press.

Using lino to ‘relief’ print in this way is a fun and accessible introduction to printmaking, and allows each aspiring printmaker to consider light and dark, form, colour and texture.

During the workshop, Robert will briefly introduce you to relief printmaking before taking you through the process step by step. This introductory workshop will be closely led to ensure that you are working safely with the (sharp!) tools, and that you understand each part of the process.

You will be encouraged to experiment with different types of mark making when creating your own design, and templates are available for those who can find starting a piece of art a daunting process.

At the end of this workshop, each participant will have their own print run of lino printed art, and a carved lino block that they can take home to continue their creative journey. Participants will leave with the knowledge and skills necessary for personal projects. Participants are also invited to remain in the Stampa Lofi studio after the workshop end to make any amendments to their block.

Finally, the individual lino prints will be tessellated into a larger, collaborative artwork, a print of which will be proudly added to the Stampa LoFi archive.

No prior printing experience is necessary: the process is accessible, immediate, and addictive! If you have prior printmaking experience, we will use your expertise to deepen the experience for everyone, and talk about how you can develop your practice further.

Hosted by Robert Marjoribanks at The StampaLoFi printmaking workshop on the first floor of Ocean Terminal (opposite Street Soccer). Suitable for beginners

The workshop is most fun (and to make it as cheap as possible) in groups. Therefore if there are only a couple of participants I will ask you kindly if it is possible to be flexible on dates and join another group if necessary. Thank you so much for understanding!
