About this event

Kidocracy

is an interactive theatre show for children aged 6-10,

that received Arts Council funding for development to work within

schools. The show is written and performed by Keith Farnan, a

former solicitor who, before practicing in Ireland, worked as an

intern in the Innocence Project, New York and the Georgia

Multicounty Public Defenders Office researching appeals against

the death penalty. Having left law for comedy, he has since

appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Montreal’s Just

for Laughs, Showtime’s Live from Amsterdam as well as Money,

Money, Money, his own stand-up documentary about the collapse of

the Irish economy for RTE. His shows, which have toured the

world, look at inequalities in society and Kidocracy is very much in

keeping with his work in making important issues accessible and

entertaining.

This is a unique and exciting show for children that aspires to show

the importance of participation in a democracy. The structure of

the show includes games which explore the qualities of a good

leader, electing a leader, formulating laws, contributing to a

government, dealing with a budget and seeing off a Tyrant.

Kidocracy involves as many of the children as possible, either in the

proposing of ideas or the games that take place during the show.

Kidocracy is an aspirational show aimed at children everywhere to

encourage their participation and fearlessness when encountering

issues relating to politics and law, which they might otherwise have

been intimidated by, while at the same time having a lot of fun!

“A really entertaining, funny kid’s show with loads of

great audience participation to keep all ages entertained

and laughing. Brehon’s Irish charm engages the children

straight away” - Primary Times
