About this event

What’s Making Tax Digital all about – and what does it mean for you?

If you’re a sole trader or an unincorporated landlord, you’ve probably heard whispers about Making Tax Digital (MTD) – but what does it actually mean, and how will it affect the way you manage your finances?

This relaxed, jargon-free session is here to break it all down for you. We’ll chat about what MTD is, who it applies to, when it’s coming in, and most importantly, what you need to do to get ready. Whether you’ve got a shoebox full of receipts, a spreadsheet you half understand, or you’re already using software but unsure if it’s the right one – this session is for you.

We’ll cover what records you need to keep, how often you’ll need to submit info to HMRC, and what software options are out there (don’t worry, you don’t have to spend a fortune). You’ll leave with a clearer idea of what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and what your next steps should be – all without the scary accountant speak.

There’ll be time for questions too, so you can leave feeling more confident and a bit more in control of your tax stuff.

Let’s make tax less stressful, one step at a time.

Claire B is all about making numbers feel less scary. With years of experience helping sole traders and small businesses stay on top of their finances, she’s great at breaking things down into simple steps and giving honest, practical advice that actually makes sense.

Claire R knows the ins and outs of digital record keeping and tax rules like the back of her hand. She’s passionate about helping people feel confident with their bookkeeping and is always happy to answer the questions others are too afraid to ask.

This workshop is brought to you by Balance & Bliss, BlackCat Accounts, and Addison Accounts and Training – three friendly, local experts here to make tax a little less taxing.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this event for?

This session is for sole traders and unincorporated landlords who want to understand what Making Tax Digital means for them. If you run your business as a limited company, this session won’t be relevant to you – but feel free to get in touch and we’ll point you in the right direction

Do I need to be good with tech to come along?

Not at all. We’re keeping things simple and clear. We’ll walk you through the basics, explain your options, and answer questions in plain English – no tech jargon or pressure.

Is this just for people who are already using software?

Nope. Whether you’re using spreadsheets, paper records, or apps – or just figuring things out – you’ll find something useful here.

Do I have to bring anything?

Just yourself, you don’t need to prepare anything or bring any paperwork. But feel free to jot down questions you’d like to ask.

Will there be a chance to ask questions?

Yes – there’ll be time at the end for Q&A, so you can get help with anything you’re unsure about.

I haven’t started trading yet – is this still relevant to me?

Yes! If you’re planning to become a sole trader or rent out a property in the near future, this is a great way to get ahead and understand what you’ll need to do from the start.
