What is spiritual and/or faith-based trauma?

Accepted Answer

There are lots of definitions going around! It is often linked to abuse that has been experienced in a faith setting, or because of one's faith or spiritual practice, or been justified as the will of a higher power. But it doesn't only happen in religious groups or to people who are 'religious'.

Question 2

I resonate with this but I don't have a diagnosis of trauma or anything. Can I still come?

Accepted Answer

Of course! Diagnosis isn't right or useful for everyone, but that doesn't mean you don't have needs. If you're ready to be in a respectful, open, playful and creative space with others exploring complex feelings and experiences, this is for you.

Question 3

Am I going to have to tell people what I've been through?

Accepted Answer

How much or little you tell people about the specifics of your experiences is completely up to you. The exercises are based around movement, metaphor and play so as to take away the need to use your own literal story at any point, but still allow you to make profound discoveries for yourself.

Question 4

I don't think I'm very good at acting. Is that going to be a problem?

Accepted Answer

Not at all. The exercises have been inspired by theatre-making and performance art processes, but you won't be asked to 'perform' anything in that way. We ask you to come prepared to give things a go as much as you can, but you are welcome to sit out at points if something feels too overwhelming.
