About this event

With an estimated 3.3 million people in gambling debt, the cost-of-living crisis is negatively impacting those who gamble more than others, whilst not only affecting the individual but also their loved ones.

This interactive FREE Gambling Awareness and Prevention (GAP) training session focuses specifically on the debt and mpney sector. Aimed at professionals, practitioners and volunteers who may provide debt advice, money management and budgeting to individuals, enabling Debt and Money Advisors to recognise and respond appropriately to people, both experiencing and at risk of experiencing gambling-related harms, and those affected by others’ gambling. The training content provides evidence-based information, support options, and specialist services and referral pathways.

This training will aid in the identification of people experiencing gambling harms with a key focus on increasing awareness and understanding of the impact of stigma faced by individuals.

The training has been co-designed by us with Debt Advice Specialists and the Lived Experience Community. The GAP programme is delivered by GamCare, Breakeven, Aquarius and NECA to provide regional engagement and training to professionals, practitioners, and volunteers.

You will receive comprehensive learning and the content of this training will:

  • Provide awareness of gambling-related harms for both gamblers and affected others.

  • Increase knowledge to enable identification and recognition of gambling-related harms.

  • Detail the impact of stigma on an individual affected by gambling-related harms.

  • Provide guidance to confidently use a screening question to identify gambling-related harms.

  • Provide information about the range of support services and referral pathways for gamblers and affected others experiencing gambling-related harms.
