About this event

This interactive FREE Gambling Awareness and Prevention (GAP) training session focuses specifically on the housing and homelessness sector. Aimed at professionals, practitioners and volunteers who may provide support, guidance or advocacy to clients in London. This training event will enable Housing and Homelessness workers, to recognise and respond appropriately to people experiencing gambling-related harms, those at risk of experiencing gambling harms and individuals affected by others’ gambling. The training content provides evidence-based information, support options and specialist services and referral pathways.

With 82.4% of people experiencing gambling problems before they were homeless, and the cost-of-living crisis negatively impacting those who gamble more than others, this training will aid identification of people experiencing gambling harms with a key focus on increasing awareness and understanding the impact of stigma faced by individuals.

The training has been co-designed by us, Housing and Homelessness Specialists and the Lived Experience Community. The GAP programme is delivered by GamCare, Breakeven, Aquarius and NECA to provide regional engagement and training to professionals, practitioners, and volunteers.

You will receive comprehensive learning and the content of this training will:

  • Provide awareness of gambling-related harms for both gamblers and affected others.
  • Increase knowledge to enable identification and recognition of gambling-related harms.
  • Detail the impact of stigma on an individual affected by gambling-related harms.
  • Provide guidance to confidently use a screening question to identify gambling-related harms.
  • Provide information about the range of support services and referral pathways for gamblers and affected others experiencing gambling-related harms.
