About this event

Furies - Book Club

Calling all dragons, hussies, sirens, wenches and she-devils. The DCB book club/coven takes on Furies - a collection of short stories by award-winning writers.

Here's all the essential info you'll need before we meet.

If you have any questions that we haven't covered here, please drop us an email at hello@dropcitybooks.com

What's Included

Your ticket includes a copy of the book wrapped in a way that can only be described as OTT.

You can either collect it from the shop or pick the ticket option with postage and we'll post it out to you.

Then, join us at Drop City Books on Thursday, June 20th, at 18:30 GMT+1.

We'll kick off with some totally exclusive twilight browsing time in the shop, a free glass or two of prosecco/nosecco, mood lighting, excellent music. Bargains a-plenty.

Then we move on to the cosy book club room, where we chat about the book, laugh, argue a bit (in a totally chill and respectful way, of course) get vulnerable, and generally have a great time.

You'll leave feeling fired up for the weekend.

About The Book

We'll be reading Furies, a short story collection by various authors inclusing Margaret Atwood, Emma Donoghue, Claire Khoda and more.

DRAGON. SHE-DEVIL. HUSSY. SIREN. WENCH. HARRIDAN. MUCKRAKER. SPITFIRE. VITUPERATOR. CHURAIL. TERMAGANT. FURY. WARRIOR. VIRAGO.

Fifteen bestselling, award-winning writers have written a collection that reclaims the words that are used to describe women the world can’t handle.

Furies brings these stories together in one magical, mystical, fierce, funny collection.

Read one, read a few, read ‘em all, whatever works for you. If you've always facncied our book club, but a whole novel feels out of reach (we get it, life is busy, time is short) then this is a good chance to get involved with less pages to read.

This book party is for adults 18+ but stay tuned for kids and YA book clubs very soon

The book deals with adult themes, click here for content wanrings

FAQs

AHHH I haven't read the book

Seriously, it's cool. This night is about connecting with people you might not usually meet, giving your brain a little massage and having a really nice time. You'll still get loads out of the evening whether or not you've read 2 pages or the whole thing.

AHHH I'm scared!

Totally understandable. I'm Ruth, owner of Drop City Books, I'm a BACP registered psychotherapist, book nerd, experienced group facilitator and man do I like to host a party. I'm going to do everything I can to make this as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. How inolved you want to get is totally up to you, no forced participation! There will be chances to ask questions and join in with some fun stuff, but also coming along to listen and observe is just as valid.

AHHH Can I have one of your rad stamps in my book

But of course, bring your book, the ink pad will be inked.

Accessibility

  • Please get in touch if you have any specific access requirements you think we might need to know about in advance, or if you have any allergies.
  • Our author party will involve sitting on a chair, stool, bench or on the floor with comfort breaks whenever you need them. We encourage standing up and stretching, fidgeting, wiggling around.
  • The room we will be using is accessed through the shop and has a 2 inch step up to it.
  • Our toilet facilities are gender neutral with individual cubicles.
  • The toilets are downstairs accessed by a flight of stairs with a handrail. I'm sorry that we don't currently have an accessible toilet, I'm trying to get funding for one at the moment.
  • We will be using amplified music at low levels in the shop.

Refunds

If you can't make it to the event we can only refund your ticket if you return the book in its brand-new unread condition.
