COVID-19 has had unprecedented impacts on almost all aspects of life, including challenges to regional, national, continental, and global food systems.

In addition to the direct health threats posed by the virus itself, COVID-19 is also expected to disrupt global food security, global supply chains, and global agriculture. According to David Beasley, Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme, “[I]f we don’t prepare and act now – to secure access, avoid funding shortfalls and disruptions to trade - we could be facing multiple famines of biblical proportions within a short few months.” (source)

To help anticipate and minimize the looming food crisis, we’re bringing together food systems experts from around the world to create an online handbook that can be used by governments and community leaders to tackle these issues and ensure their people have access to sufficient food.

Come and contribute your knowledge with people from around the world in this digital event. Join for as little or as long as you like and contribute what you know.

We anticipate and request input from people in private industry, academia, governments and NGOs. We are thankful to be joined by people from DFID (the UK's department for International Development), the UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), Bayer, the V20 group (Vulnerable Twenty), the University of Oxford, FAO (Food and Agricultural Organisation of the UN) and MCII (Munich Climate Insurance Initiative) with many more to come.

Our goal is to identify and predict how the COVID-19 crisis could exacerbate problems within the global food system and develop solutions to minimize the impact. We plan to tackle issues related to global supply chains, food access, prices, and government policy. We will also identify and learn from country-wide successes during the crisis to date to apply those lessons to upcoming problems.

The event will be moderated by the team behind the successful Coronavirus Tech Handbook (that connected doctors and engineers from around the world).
