About this event

See the real Craggy Island for yourself by taking a nostalgic journey through the iconic Irish sitcom "Father Ted". Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Irish countryside in County Clare's Burren National Park and the Aran Islands, this tour visits key filming locations and landmarks associated with the show, including:

  • Craggy Island Parochial House
  • The dancing priest's house
  • Setting for the "My Lovely Horse" music video
  • Various locations from the "Hell" episode where the priests go on holiday to the caravan park
  • Various locations from the "Speed 3" episode where Ted and Dougal put Pat Mustard out of a job
  • The pubs featured in "Chirpy Burpy Cheap Sheep" and "Are You Right There Father Ted?"
  • The picnic spot from The Old Grey Whistle Thief episode
  • The Holy Stone of Clonrichert

The tour can be taken at any time but it is recommended that you begin early in the day and allow yourself 5-6 hours for the tour of the mainland locations once you've arrived at your chosen starting point on the route. This should allow you plenty of time to enjoy the stops along the way as well as take in the approx. 3 hours of driving. The locations on the Aran Islands are provided, however the itinerary for these locations is up to you.

As a bonus, along the route there are some must-see landmarks (some of which require an entry fee) which have not not featured in the show but are worth the visit, as well as many scenic viewpoints to stop at along the way. There are also a few filming locations provided which are not on the main route, these are situated in the east of Ireland around Dublin and North Wicklow.

You will need a smartphone or tablet to get the most benefit out of this tour. It is recommended that you download Google Maps and Spotify, and download the map area and playlist for offline use in the event of losing signal for mobile data while on the tour. Instructions for how to download maps for offline use can be advised if necessary. Other recommendations for getting the most out of the tour include having bluetooth connectivity for your car, a means of charging your smartphone or tablet while on the trip and lastly, we recommend you watch a few of the episodes of Father Ted featured on the tour ahead of your trip - these are currently available to stream for free on RTE.ie and Channel4.com.
