Event Description

This course will provide ECTs with the knowledge and skills to understand and manage behaviour at a classroom level whilst making links to whole school systemic effective practice. ECTs will be able to work together with an educational psychologist to share good practice and begin to focus on positive ways forward to address behaviour challenges that can occur in schools.

This training aims to form a safe and trusted space for Early Careers Teachers to reflect on the set up of their classroom and the culture and practices they create to support children to engage in positive wanted behaviours. It will use evidence-based practice to reflect on how teachers can manage a variety of off-task and disruptive behaviours in the classroom.

Time will also be given to make links to working collaboratively with parents/carers and supporting class teacher wellbeing/stress.

This course is designed to be delivered over several short sessions to support teachers to embed successful practice, embed it over time and link back to effective ECT mentoring in schools.

Aims/Objectives

· To understand the behaviours of children and young people and how we might begin to address these using a range of techniques and trauma-informed approaches.

· To consider the importance of setting up and maintaining good whole classroom expectations for behaviour and learning practices for all children and young people.

· To gain the knowledge and skills to consolidate positive relationships with children and young people and to reflect on the language and psychological practices that can be used to engage and motivate them.

· To reflect on how staff can work collaboratively and effectively with a range of parents/carers.

· To understand the value of maintaining and promoting good wellbeing and mental health to manage stress.

Outcomes

Ensuring ECTs feel confident in creating and maintaining a positive classroom ethos and have the knowledge and skills to manage difficult behaviours in schools.
