It is a free-form dance practice where participants can gather to dance to music without the need of following the instructions of a leader. In Ecstatic Dance the music is the leader and participants are free to weave their way through the different soundscapes.

Guidelines:
We are a consent based community. Practicing consent before dancing with others. Know your yes and your no, both respected. Never obligated to dance with others.
We dance barefoot unless foot instability and essential to were indoor shoes. Connect to the earth. Condition your feet to move with strength, stability, power.
We do t allow phones in the room. Release distraction and be present.
We practice holding space for each other in safe ways … coming from loving kindness and mindfulness.
We practice respect. Self, other, the space itself. Listen to your body and moving with personal responsibility and volition.

Sarasota fla friends join us on-site at 2924 Hyde park st to dance in our new studio “home”. Global friends join us via zoom in your home.
Ecstatic Dance is a free form movement practice that you do from home, anywhere on earth and in your body. Some do it for exercise, to connect, as a spiritual experience, some do it for celebration, self care, expression, meditation, as a way to heal the body/mind, for the music, medicine and to connect to a loving supportive community. You can do this as you clean your home, ride in and airplane, around the table, pool, in the jungle, at the office, in your yoga space, at the beach, in the forest, while taking care of your kids ( kids are welcome), from the hospital, in bed, on the treadmill, from rehab center ( these are all places people have joined from) …
How? The circle opens with someone reading the guidelines…. Setting up the space. The music starts. You begin to notice how your body wants to move… however big or small… you rest when you need too and move as much and doing what feels good.
Join us every Wednesday 10:30-12pm, Saturday 7:00-9:00pm and Sunday 10:30-12noon EASTERN TIME ZONE (check your time zone). Doors open 30 minutes prior to the dance for silent meditation or enjoy the soft music and get yourself warmed up, ready.

Who? We are a diverse and growing group of dancing enthusiasts from around the world that come together three times a week to move, play, dance, meditate, connect, heal, express and grow.
What? What started and still is, Ecstatic Dance SRQ in Sarasota Florida USA, has expanded during the COVID pandemic to include many from different countries. Over the last 8 months we’ve become closely connected and a naturally growing group of men, women, all ages, all colors and all identities.
How? We meet on zoom, from our homes….in different time zones and dance together. This is a sacred space and begins with an optional meditation 30 minutes before each dance, followed by a 15 minute warm-up offered by a community member and a 5 minute closing circle. Simply arrive either for the meditation or the dance of your choice with links below. Many times we stay after for an informal conversation/”afterparty” as well. No need to sign up ahead or anything. If you have the means, and enjoy it please donate (Dances usually go for $15 in our area, any amount is welcome that works for you) and THANK YOU SO MUCH! If you are financially not able to, please still join us!!!! Your presence is needed, important and adds to the dance for others as well.

Music? The music is DJ-ed by Kai (Kelly Atkins) with a blend of world, electronic conscious and sacred music blended with dubstep, club, rap, techno/house, instrumental and chill. The music is chosen to open your dance, to experience lots of different vibrations (healing musical qualities and solfeggio rhythms/harmonics), emotions and musical genres and to inspire creativity. Its set up in a wave format. Kelly Atkins has been creating playlists and soundscapes for dance and conscious movement many years and has great joy making unique sound journeys for every dance. We welcome new folks to join anytime.
