About this event

  • A 3.5 hour Morning session from 9.30 to 13.00 will introduce you to Design thinking, a user centered methodology to problem solving and innovation. By exploring the process, tools and mindset of design thinking in an interactive session (online). The first and most critical step is ensuring you understand the needs of each user a key stakeholder. This session will introduce a number of the most useful and popular methods for this first phase of work.
  • For part 2 the afternoon session of this day from 14.00 to 17.00 - we recommend you stay online and attend the full day. Part 2 introduces you to how to do the perfect pitch. If you are shortlisted in Spark Seed you must have attended part 1 and part 2 to pitch to Spark. Martin Ryan is a multi-award winning designer, entrepreneur and cofounder of Actionable. In 2005 Martin invented the world's first cantilevered saddle – a revolutionary equestrian saddle which he conceived and developed to improve performance and comfort for horse and rider. Today, Martin holds a particular passion in working with ambitious companies seeking to set new standards in their market. Martin advises towards embedding innovation capabilities, building consumer insight and delivering breakthrough innovation in product and services. To this end Martin has acclaimed a number of awards notably including; the JEC World Innovation Award (Paris), Dyson Design Award and ISPO Volvo sport Design Award finalist (Munich). Martin has collaborated with the Spark Innovation and their innovation network by supervising design interns and leading on Design led projects within the clinical setting.

Is the workshop I need to do to pitch for Spark seed

Yes, this and 'Design Thinking Introduction with Martin Ryan part 2'. You can do the workshops before or after you apply but in order to pitch if shortlisted you must do the workshop.

Do I have to apply for a Spark Call to do this workshop?

No. We are hoping that after you do the workshops you will be more likely to get involved with any future Spark calls, however we hope the tools you are introduced to will help you have a design thinking and innovative mindset when approaching problems in your clinical areas.

Do I have to do 'Design thinking Inspiration' to do this workshop?

No. 'Design thinking Inspiration' is a 1.5 hour session that compliments these workshops but it a stand alone session. If you want a taster to see what design thinking is then attend 'Design thinking inspiration' before signing up to the 'Design thinking introduction' workshops.
