Who is this course for?

This course is for people who have a lead role and responsibility within their organisation for Child Protection practice. This would include responsibilities for management oversight and the development of policies and learning. Prior to attending this course, it is expected that you will have grounding in child protection practice, and have previously completed child protection training course/s.

This interactive training course will provide learners with the skills and knowledge required to carry out the role and responsibilities of the Child Protection Lead. The themes of the day include a focus on legislation and guidance, referral procedures and supporting and responding to staff & volunteers thereby developing confidence in the role and promoting best practice in safeguarding children and young people.

Key learning

  • Recognise the important link between management oversight and staff working to promote best outcomes in safeguarding children & young people.
  • Outline the relevant legislation and guidance central to the Child Protection Lead role
  • Understand how to manage concerns and the referral process in relation to safeguarding and protecting children and young people.

Certificate

Certificates are awarded for this training. Please note however that you must attend 4h30m of the 5h training in order to receive a certificate. The training session is designed to cover essential knowledge and skills relevant to the Child Protection Lead role. Arriving late, or leaving early by a cumulative of half an hour, significantly diminishes the opportunity to grasp key concepts and participate in interactive discussions. As a result of it, you'll be ineligible for a certificate.

This training will be delivered using Zoom. You can attend from anywhere using a compatible computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone connected to the internet.

Please note, some organisations have additional security settings that may prevent you from accessing Zoom on a work device.

Please check that your organisation permits access to Zoom. If they don’t provide access, we encourage you to use a personal device with Google Chrome instead. Otherwise, please speak to your IT team to gain access or ask them to change the security settings on your work device to access Zoom.

Closed Captioning and Live Transcription

Zoom enables Close Captioning and Live Transcription. Once you have joined the Zoom, you can access this by:

  1. Click the “CC Live Transcript” button
  2. Click one of the following:
  • Show Subtitles – Displays captioning on the bottom of the video. You can also select Hide Subtitle once subtitles are selected to hide them.
  • View Full Transcript – Opens a panel/pop-up and displays captions in real-time with both the speaker’s name and time stamp.

As a charity, Children in Scotland must cover the running costs of delivering events. We are therefore not in a position to offer refunds except under extenuating circumstances, in which case an administration fee would be applied.

Recording and/or distributing the training in any form is prohibited. This training may be recorded for internal review and use.
