WHAT WILL I GET FROM THIS WORKSHOP?

You will take away a collection of cyanotypes, printed outdoors in the sunshine using botanical leaves and flowers. Refreshments are provided.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

In this workshop you will explore the process of cyanotypes, a cameraless form of photography that uses the sunlight to capture images of flowers and leaves. The workshop takes place outdoors in Short & Few's garden, where we will sample the seasonal blooms, or you can bring your own cuttings. Everything you need is provided, and cyanotype kits are available to purchase so you can continue the process at home.

WHO IS MY TUTOR?

Short & Few runs creative workshops in Ilkley, including printmaking, alternative photography and bookmaking. It is run by Zoe (that's me above, in the yellow apron), a qualified and experienced art tutor currently teaching at a specialist arts university in Leeds. My background is in graphic design and typography, but over the years I have developed a deep interest in process-driven arts and hands-on analogue practices. I am a big believer in learning by doing and making mistakes as a form of enquiry, an ethos which underpins my teaching. I love the buzz of seeing what people make when they least expect it, and inspiring people to develop a curiosity for what the arts can be about. Cyanotypes really do feel like magic when you see the process unfold.

WHERE IS THE WORKSHOP HELD?

This workshop takes place in Short & Few's garden in Ilkey (LS29). For any questions about the work space please email me (see below). Details about the location will be provided on booking.

WHO IS THE WORKSHOP FOR? WHAT DO I NEED TO CONSIDER?

There is no minimum ability expected - anyone with an interest in the arts, printing and nature. Refreshments are provided, so do let me know if you have any dietary requirements that need catering for (e.g. dairy free, gluten intolerant).

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

Everything is provided, but if you have specific objects flowers or leaves you would like to work with, please bring these along. As we are working in the sunshine, please be prepared with sun cream and a hat. Please bring an apron and/or wear scruff, as the cyanotype chemicals can stain.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE

You will be provided with the full address on booking, and a contact address to send your dietary requirements to if applicable. There is plenty of on-street parking; and public transport by train is within walking distance.

Note that the workshop space for this event is not wheel chair accessible. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, with a minimum age of 12 years old. Please contact Short & Few before booking if this applies.

If the weather isn't looking overly sunshiny on the day, we will work indoors using a lightbox.
