Family Friendly Event!

Join us for a Bioblitz day to assist in recording and protecting wildlife and nature. All you need is a smartphone and the iNaturalist mobile app. This is an open-day event, so you can arrive whenever you like and spend your afternoon exploring Smithills Estate. We will have on-site volunteers who can advise on the best areas to explore and how to use the iNaturalist app. There will also be short guided sessions with our specialist ecologist on pond dipping and a beginner session with our recording volunteer team.

Balsam Bashing events are an opportunity to put practical conservation into action. Himalayan Balsam, an invasive plant species, harms British ecosystems by outcompeting our native plants due to its fast spread and growth. All equipment will be provided, and our expert volunteers will be on hand to help.

This event is open access, and you can drop in at any time. However, we suggest you book in advance to secure your place in our guided sessions (recording, pond dipping and balsam bashing).
