Beyond: Synthesis by SMU INDANCITY

Beyond: Synthesis explores the delicate balance between human development and environmental preservation. Societal growth, individual pursuits, and ecological sustainability challenge notions of progress and urge a re-evaluation of our relationship with nature. Using a combination of movements, sounds, lights and materials, Beyond: Synthesis imagines what could be a balanced coexistence between humanity and nature.

Co-choreographed by Hong Guofeng and Sammantha Yue, this full-length work confronts the obfuscated cultural boundaries to navigate how the environment and humanity shape each other in a musing waltz between nature’s utility and its intrinsic sanctity.

About BEYOND

BEYOND is SMU INDANCITY’s annual production, serving both as a platform for dancers to showcase what they have learnt, as well as an opportunity for them to work with choreographers across the industry. In doing so, dancers are exposed to various interpretations of contemporary dance, allowing them to deepen their exploration of movement and broaden their dance vocabulary.
