Meeting Place: Broad Pavement Car Park, Queen's Drive. Postcode: EH8 8AZ. Meeting point is next to the entrance of the car park on the grass verge opposite the car park kiosk.

Description: Come along on a more challenging guided walk to learn about Arthur’s Seats' turbulent past, created by fire and ice! Find out about the people who lived and worked in the Park from 7000 years ago up until the present day and learn more about the rare wildlife that makes the Park so special.


This is a strenuous walk and will involve steep inclines/declines and rough terrain.


Age: This walk may not be suitable for children under 12 years.

Grade: Strenuous

Route: Crags, Hutton's Section, Summit, Whinny Hill, Dry Dam, St. Anthony’s Chapel. This may change.

Bring: Warm, waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear with good grips. A snack and a drink.

Toilets: Toilets are available at the Holyrood Park Education Centre (EH8 8HG). No toilets on the walk itself.

Parking: Broad Pavement Car Park (off Queen's Drive, next to Holyrood Palace). Parking charges are £1 per hour. Charges apply 08:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday (except Public Holidays). Parking is free for Blue Badge holders. 55°57'03.9"N 3°10'09.8"W - Google Maps

Road Closures: Holyrood Park roads are closed every Saturday and Sunday.

Disabled access: Route may not suitable for disabled people . This is a ‘strenuous’ graded walk. Route contains rough tracks, uneven and boggy terrain, steep inclines and declines and may include an occasional scramble. Please contact the Ranger Service for more information.

Dogs: Dogs are not permitted except assistance dogs.
