A Sustainability Skills Swapshop at UCL IOE: Upcycling
The Department of Culture, Communications and Media at the IOE have been organizing/hosting “Sustainability Skills Swapshops”. These are open sessions led by UCL/IOE staff or students on a voluntary basis that involve a demonstration of and/or hands-on participation in a sustainability skill.
We'll be teaching you how to make a No Sew T-Shirt Tote Bag, followed by a mending session led by our team! This session is facilitated by Anoushka and swapshop organisers (Andrea, Ross and Mina).
When and Where?
- June 10th, 1-2:30pm - stay as long as you like!
- Room: 944
Activity
- 1:00-1:45pm - We will be making a tote-bag out of an old T-Shirt! This is a no-sew activity, so please just bring an old T-shirt with you, we will provide you with the other supplies. If you want to come, and don’t have a T-shirt, send us a message and we will do our best to find supplies.
- 1:45-2:30pm – if you want to stay for longer, we will do some embroidery to strengthen the bag's handle and learn new stitches you can use in other projects too.
What to Bring
- For the first part, please just bring an old T-shirt that we will be recycling into a tote bag using this simple process! Instructions on Making a Tote Bag out of a T-Shirt
- For the second part, bring your needle and embroidery thread. We will have some spare materials for those who can’t bring their own.
