Madrid

With a rhythm set by its creative community and historic mining roots, Madrid, NM, offers a unique scene for events and things to do. The town's revival as an artist enclave in the 1970s defines its independent spirit, which is on full display along its main drag. Most activity centers on the walkable stretch of galleries, studios, and small venues that line the Turquoise Trail.

• The town's main street is the center of activity, with galleries like Johnsons of Madrid Community Commons hosting art events and shops welcoming browsers.
• Live music is a local fixture, especially at the historic Mine Shaft Tavern, which hosts performances on its indoor and outdoor stages.
• Community celebrations mark the calendar, from the annual Crawdaddy Blues Fest to baseball games and parades at the Oscar Huber Memorial Ballpark.
