Newington

The local scene often flows across the river, with many events and things to do centered around Newington, NH's lively neighbors, Portsmouth and Kittery. Downtown Portsmouth is the region's main hub, offering a dense collection of historic venues, restaurants, and shops along its walkable brick streets. Just across the bridge in Maine, Kittery Foreside presents a more relaxed, artsy alternative with its own unique cluster of independent businesses and performance spaces.

• An evening out often starts with dinner in Portsmouth's Market Square before a show at a venue like The Music Hall or Jimmy's Jazz & Blues Club.
• Find a variety of performances at 3S Artspace, a non-profit center for contemporary arts, or catch a more intimate show at The Dance Hall in Kittery.
• Outdoor gatherings are a highlight, especially with the summer-long series at Prescott Park Arts Festival on the Portsmouth waterfront.
