Independence

While Independence has a reputation for its quiet, small-town rhythm, there are plenty of events and things to do that center on community life. Many gatherings take place at Memorial Park, from annual parades to seasonal outdoor concerts. For a wider variety of nightlife and dining, the lively riverfront scenes in nearby Covington and Newport are just a short drive away.

• For a taste of local life, the weekend often centers on family-friendly park activities or browsing goods at the seasonal Independence Farmers' Market.
• Memorial Park is a key hub for civic life, hosting the free 'Party at the Park' summer concert series at the Donna Yeager Amphitheater.
• To see touring bands, residents often head to Newport's venues, such as The Southgate House Revival in its historic church setting or the larger MegaCorp Pavilion.
