Eventbrite Powers Hundreds of Fall Culinary Events; Celebrates With Local San Francisco “Food Heroes” Event
SAN FRANCISCO, CA–(Marketwire – September 8, 2010) – Eventbrite, the fastest growing online event ticketing and social commerce company, has seen widespread use of its service for culinary celebrations this Fall, from wine and beer festivals, to cooking classes, book launches and award ceremonies. To celebrate, Eventbrite will be sponsoring “An Evening with Food Heroes” tonight at Terroir Natural Wine Bar in San Francisco.
The event will honor food heroes from around the San Francisco bay area who exemplify a love for their respective culinary crafts, featuring local artisans such as Pizza Politana, Frog Hollow, Four Barrel Coffee and others. It will also mark the launch of Georgia Pellegrini’s new book “Food Heroes,” chronicling the author’s culinary quest to explore artisanal cooking traditions around the world.
“‘Food Heroes’ is all about local, unsung chefs and artisans who are continually honing their crafts and sharing their passion for food with others,” said author Georgia Pellegrini. “Eventbrite is empowering food heroes all over to also share their talents with the world. An Evening with Food Heroes will be an exciting celebration of these artisans everywhere.”
Eventbrite has been adopted by hundreds of culinary event planners all over the country, ranging from the thousand-person street food celebration of the 2010 Vendy Awards, to smaller events such as the Gen-Nis Culinary and Herb Center’s intimate children’s class “Pizza Chefs: It’s all about toppings.”
The 2010 Vendy Awards celebrates the finest in New York street food, growing from a 150-person event in 2004 held in a garage, to this year’s thousand-person event held on Governors Island. The event — completely driven by volunteers — has captured New York’s imagination and already sold out six weeks before the event itself.
“Eventbrite makes it very easy for our attendees to buy tickets directly from our site, something our previous ticket provider couldn’t do,” said Amy Kantrowitz, managing director of the Vendy Awards. “With their in-depth back-end monitoring tools, it’s been easy to supervise ticket sales and our total number of attendees in a clearly presented interface.”
The same interface and tools enjoyed by the Vendys are also available to smaller gatherings. Across the Brooklyn Bridge, the Gen-Nis Culinary and Herb Center adopted Eventbrite to ease their ticketing process for customers. The Center, founded to promote healthy eating habits through hands-on education, hosts a variety of intimate classes and seminars for New Yorkers — from 5-year-old “Kindercooks” to adults. Their upcoming class “Pizza Chefs: It’s all about the toppings” will teach 25 eager 6-12 year olds about pizza creation through hands-on (and perhaps messy) learning.
“Having just started at Gen-Nis in June, I’ve been amazed at how easy it’s been to pick up the process of creating, managing, and selling tickets to my classes through Eventbrite,” said instructor Tina DeGraff, herself a former chef. “Since implementing Eventbrite we’ve also received several compliments from our class attendees about the no-hassle ticket buying process.”
