Eventbrite Doubles Down – and Up – in the UK

Eventbrite hits four million tickets sold for over 100,000 events in UK market

London, UK; 2 October: Eventbrite, the leading self-service ticketing company that helps people connect through live experiences, has grown the number of tickets sold in the UK 115% since its launch in the country one year ago (Sept 2011). In addition, the number of events on the platform has more than doubled (107% increase) in the same timeframe.

Founded in 2006, the company has continued to disrupt the ticketing industry, with a laser-focus on innovation, which was most recently highlighted by the company’s announcement this month that Eventbrite tickets will be integrated with Passbook on the iOS 6 operating system. This is expected to be available in late September.

With 200 employees in both the US and its European headquarters in London, not only did the team double the number of events and tickets sold in the UK, but also grew gross tickets sales more than 80% during the company’s first year of local operations. To offer perspective on this growth, UK ticket sales in the last 12 months accounted for more than half of the tickets sold in the UK since the company’s founding six years ago.

Eventbrite data shows that Londoners were by far and away the most avid event-goers in the UK, with vibrant Brighton coming in second. The top ten cities in the UK are London, Brighton, Edinburgh, Cambridge, Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford, Bristol, Leeds and Sheffield.

“London has long been a top five city for Eventbrite in terms of users, and the response we’ve seen since our recent focus on the UK has been incredibly promising,” said Kevin Hartz, CEO of Eventbrite. “The vast quantity and breath of events here showcase the entrepreneurial spirit of the country, and highlight people’s ability to embrace the online world to build their offline lives.”

With an exciting 2012 coming to a close, this latest news marks yet another milestone for Eventbrite. During the year, Eventbrite also announced issuing $1billion in gross ticket sales since its founding, and released localised versions of the platform in 14 countries, including France, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. There have also been a number of high-profile hires at the company; notably, the UK saw Marion Gamel join as head of EMEA marketing, having previously worked at Google.
