”Revolution of Our Times” - is a documentary film about Hong Kong people’s fight for freedom and democracy in 2019, a popular movement that has inspired similar acts of resistance around the world. Banned from screening in Hong Kong, the film premiered at Cannes as the film festival’s closing feature in 2021, unannounced prior to screening as it would have provoked China’s wrath. On Sunday April 3, a special Chicago screening of Revolution of Our Times will give Chicagoans a chance to bear eyewitness to history being made on the streets of Hong Kong, one of the frontlines in the battlefield of the worldwide struggle for freedom. Told from the protestors’ point of view, the film unfolds how state violence turned ordinary people into a new breed of warriors, who leveraged decentralized command, “be like water” tactics, communication technology, communal bonds, and sheer courage to organize themselves in this fight against tyranny.
Revolution of Our Times won the 2021 Best Documentary Golden Horse Award in Taiwan and the 2022 Impact Documentary Grand Prize at International Documentary Festival FIPADOC in France.

在中國當局的壓迫下，香港的自由與實現民主體制的願景被急速削落。電影細膩而完整地紀錄「逃犯條例」修訂案反對運動如何從和平示威演變至公民抗命及衝突的始末，為政府及警察的不合理和過度暴力以及那屬於香港人的抗爭留下時代記錄。
