Richard Cobden 220 Exhibition and Lecture series

The Richard Cobden 220 Exhibition and lecture series is held in Cobden's home town of Midhurst. The series was inspired by the launch of the Letters of Richard Cobden Online website.

The Exhibition was originally displayed at Manchester Central Library and covers themes from Cobden's career with display boards titled: International Man and Treaty Negotiator, Advocate of a Free Press, Friend to America and Champion of Free Trade.

Getting high-quality speakers for the events has been surprisingly easy. The objective was to get speakers from the worlds of politics and journalism, as well as historians, and Cobden was a subject that everyone was keen to speak on.

The Richard Cobden 220 Exhibition has been organised by Tim Young.

All proceeds from the series will go towards the Midhurst Old Library where the events are hosted. The Old Library is a late Tudor Building currently used by Midhurst Town Council, who are letting us use the building free of charge.

One objective of the series is to find a permanent home for the exhibition and for artifacts from Cobden's home, which includes a vase given to Cobden by Napoleon III
