Madwomen in the Attic at Carlow University
Since 1979, the Madwomen in the Attic program has valued women’s work as writers, dreamers and architects of society, advocating for and empowering a diverse community of women by creating a space for writing, the open exchange of ideas, and the reading and publication of women’s literature. We value the underserved literary community of women writers, regardless of age, race, class, or education. We believe that women’s writing is a necessity and that access to a space to create, the process of mentoring and listening to the voices of established writers is essential to the ongoing legacy of women’s literature.
The Madwomen in the Attic program offers opportunities for publishing, mentoring, awards and readings, including: MadBooks (a chapbook publishing series); Voices from the Attic, our annual Madwomen anthology; Madwomen Mentorship (a free, peer mentorship program); the Madwomen Reading Series featuring nationally acclaimed poets & writers; and the MadFridays Reading Series featuring Madwomen students & teachers.
