Betty Lucas is the quintessential hooping enthusiast with an infectious ability to energize even those who have never hooped or danced. After being diagnosed with osteoporosis at age 51, Betty discovered hooping as a low-impact, full body workout.

Lucas teaches primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area but travels with her hoops and has found willing pupils in Australia, Bali, Hawaii, Holland, Israel, Japan, Switzerland, Thailand, and beyond. Betty is the founder of HoopChi, combining dance and Tai Chi-inspired movements with a hoop.

In HoopChi, rather than spinning the hoop around your waist, HoopChi moves the hoop off your body providing a low-impact workout. In addition to toning and strengthening the body, HoopChi also provides hoop dancers new moves and pacing to incorporate into the dance. Once mastered, HoopChi can be sped up and turned into a flowing dance.
