St George Hospital Redevelopment Stage 3
The $411 million St George Hospital Redevelopment Stage 3 represents a significant investment in healthcare services for our local community.
The new Kensington Street Building will bring together a range of day only, ambulatory, outpatient and inpatient services that are currently delivered across multiple locations on the hospital campus. By consolidating these services under one roof, the redevelopment will improve accessibility for patients and carers, particularly those with reduced mobility or chronic health conditions, and enhance coordination of care.
The new nine-storey building will house community and outpatient services alongside three levels of inpatient beds. It will include pathology collection, an outpatient pharmacy, a day only infusion centre and a range of outpatient clinics, as well as two levels of basement parking for patients and visitors.
Importantly, the building will introduce two new specialty units: a Cognitive Transition Unit to support patients with mild to moderate acquired brain injury, and a dedicated Aged Care Unit for older patients with complex or long term conditions such as dementia and delirium.
Beyond improving patient access, the redevelopment strengthens clinical integration and supports greater collaboration between healthcare teams. By co locating services and enhancing shared spaces, the building is designed to improve efficiency, coordination and overall patient outcomes.
The overall project also includes demolition of the Prince William Wing, refurbishment of selected existing services and the completion of a new public forecourt and landscaped entry. This final stage of the redevelopment is expected to be completed in late 2026.
The St George Hospital Stage 3 Redevelopment will provide staff, patients and carers with a modern, first class facility designed to meet the evolving health needs of our community, now and into the future.
